After Windows 10 ceased to be supported, the global PC marke

The latest research by Omdia shows that in the third quarter of 2025, the total shipment volume of desktops, laptops and workstations increased by 6.8% year-on-year, reaching 72 million units.

Among them, the shipment volume of notebooks (including mobile workstations) increased by 4%, reaching 57.2 million units; the shipment volume of desktops (including desktop workstations) increased by 17%, reaching 15.2 million units. With the deadline for the Windows 10 service termination approaching in less than a week, the demand for device updates across the industry remains the main factor driving the growth in shipment volume and activation volume.

Ishan Dutt, the research director of Omdia, said: "As of October 14th, with the termination of Windows 10 service, the demand for PC upgrades from enterprises and consumers remains strong. Although Microsoft and its partners have significantly increased their promotional efforts, especially in small and medium-sized enterprises and the consumer market, there are still a considerable number of Windows users worldwide who remain on the Windows 10 system or use PC devices that are over five years old."

The latest survey of PC channel partners shows that there is still a lot of work to do in transitioning B2B customers to Windows 11. According to a survey conducted in September 2025, among 453 respondents, only 39% indicated that their customers' PCs have almost all completed updates or upgrades. A considerable proportion of 18% of the respondents stated that their customers plan to continue using Windows 10 after the support termination, and many of them may choose the Extended Security Updates option provided by Microsoft. For Microsoft and its OEM and channel partners, this means that there is still a large number of users who need continuous promotional guidance and transition support.

Dutt said: "As upgrade demands continue into the fourth quarter and beyond, major industry players have released new product roadmaps to stimulate PC purchase demand." Qualcomm has released an upgraded version of its high-end PC chipset - Snapdragon X2 Elite, while Intel has announced the launch of the next-generation Core Ultra processor - the Panther Lake series.

Dutt added: "It is expected that the 2026 CES will become a stage to showcase new and highly attractive PC products. OEM manufacturers will release new product lines integrating the latest chips, and 'device-side AI' is expected to once again become the focus after a relatively dull 2025."

In the third quarter of 2025, Lenovo performed strongly, with its shipment volume increasing by 17% year-on-year, reaching 19.4 million units, further consolidating its leading position in the global PC market. HP ranked second, with a shipment volume of 15 million units, up 11% year-on-year; Dell ranked third with a 3% annual growth rate, benefiting from the continuous upgrade demand. Apple ranked fourth, with its shipment volume exceeding 6 million units for the fifth consecutive quarter. Asus ranked fifth with a shipment volume of 5.8 million units, up 7% year-on-year.
